A digital engineering firm rooted in East Africa may not be the most obvious choice for European or international clients. We have a simple approach, whereby communication, technical delivery, security, compliance, and long-term control are treated as part of the same project.
01 Who does the work
Data XL brings together people with experience in East Africa, Europe, public health, private companies, academia, partnerships, and technical delivery. That background helps us work with different kinds of clients, expectations, and project settings. It also means we are used to projects where the technical work has to fit the organisation around it: the users, the data, the reporting, the relationships, and the realities of delivery.
02 How we stay understood
Communication is part of delivery. We work in English, and some team members also speak Dutch, which can make collaboration easier for Dutch and Belgian clients. Projects stay understandable through written decisions, clear documentation, regular check-ins, and direct access to the people doing the work. The time difference with Europe is usually only one or two hours.
03 GDPR · Security · Data sovereignty
Clients should know where their data lives, who can access it, which providers are involved, and which rules apply. We can work with major cloud providers, and we can also design EU-based hosting and private infrastructure options where sovereignty, portability, GDPR, or provider risk matter. That can include role-based access, privacy controls, careful data processing, deletion workflows, data export, documentation, and clear choices about where sensitive data is stored.
04 How delivery stays connected
We keep the people making decisions close to the people doing the work. Directors, engineers, data specialists, and delivery leads stay involved, so decisions, implementation, QA, documentation, and handover remain connected. This keeps projects practical: questions are answered by people who understand the system, and delivery choices stay connected to the client’s actual needs.
